To change Libraries, click on the CHANGE LIBRARY button. Using the Standard Dialog, open the "FirstLight Δí" in your system folder and select the new library you want to use.
MAKE A NEW LIBRARY
To start a new library, copy the “Sample” library using the Finder. (Click on the file “Sample” once then choose Duplicate from the file menu.) Then rename the copy. This copy is your new library.
CHANGE A PICTURE'S NAME
Clicking on the CHANGE NAME button will display a dialog. Simply type in the new name and click the OKAY button. The picture is now renamed.
DISPLAY A PICTURE'S NAME WITH THE IMAGE
Clicking on the SHOW NAME button will accomplish this. Click on the SHOW NAME button again to hide the name. The name will be displayed in a 1/4 inch white bar running along the bottom of the image. You cannot show a name on a picture which has been "blown-up" to fill the screen.
CHANGE THE SIZE OF AN IMAGE
Clicking on the FILL SCREEN button will switch between the image drawn at it's natural size and the image "blown-up" to fill the screen.
When the image is "blown-up," it will expand proportionally until it fills the screen.
CONTROL THE DATE ON WHICH AN IMAGE APPEARS
Unless otherwise specified, the current image is chosen sequentially from the library. You may, however, override this default by naming the image a specific date or month. The current date always takes first priority. For example, to make an image appear on November 3rd, 1995, rename the image:
11/3/95
Or, to set an image to appear for the entire month of November, substitute an asterix (*) for the day:
11/*/95
Please note, it is necessary that you format the date in the same way your computer does. To check your computer’s format, open the General Control Panal.
PREVIEW THE IMAGE
Clicking on the image itself will show you how it looks in it’s natural size.
GET GREATER CONTROL OVER “TEXT” IMAGES
When you paste text into a FirstLight library, it is converted into a picture. Once the text is converted it cannot be edited. It is displayed in a highly readable 18 pt Times, centered within a large rectangle. The text is drawn in a randomly selected color.
To have more control over the text you are entering, compose it in a graphics package, select it only and then copy and paste it into FirstLight.
IMPORTING PHYSICAL PICTURES
There are a few options for transferring pictures onto your computer. You can use a scanner, or take your pictures to a copy-shop like Kinkos™ and have them scan your pictures onto a disk. If you have access to a CD-ROM drive that can view Kodak photo-cd’s you can send your pictures to a lab and have them transferred onto a photo-cd fairly cheaply. Once on your computer open the picture with any graphic application and then copy and paste the image into FirstLight.
LIMITATIONS OF THIS VERSION
In the UNREGISTERED Shareware version, you will not be able to add or delete pictures from the libraries or create your own. You can use the included libraries or any others created by us or registered users, that you find on various networks.
